Normally, I try to avoid blogging about celebrity plastic surgery at all costs. I pretty much feel that it is tacky, and to be honest, I really could care less which of these celebrity fame whores has gone under the knife. They are already in the public spotlight more than enough. They don’t need my help.
But in this particular situation, I have to bend my own rules a bit. The hypocrisy in this story is just too rich to ignore.
In a recent magazine interview, Pamela Anderson was quoted as saying she has never gotten BOTOX because it scares her. I find this to be a rather amusing comment coming from a woman who has been married to two of the dirtiest dudes in rock n’ roll (Tommy Lee and Kid Rock). Unprotected sex with rock stars who most likely have some serious STDs is not very scary, but a little BOTOX, now that’s enough to keep you awake late at night.
Furthermore, it’s not as if she’s afraid of plastic surgery. There are not very many women throughout Hollywood that are more plastic than Pam. In the early 90s, she was the poster girl for breast augmentation, as her silicone jugs would bounce up and down in every living room in America for an hour each week during Baywatch. And let’s not forget her porn star lips which have clearly been injected with some sort of dermal filler. But she draws the line at BOTOX. That is way too scary for her to even think about.
According to Anderson, “I just don’t think I should go that way, especially at 43. I think I should just age. I’ve never been the prettiest person, and I don’t feel I need to chase youth.” Interesting insight from a woman who spent all of the peak days of her youth chasing the perfect body. Honestly, I really don’t see the difference.
She also claims, “I don’t put a lot of effort into myself with beauty products and hair care. I haven’t had a facial for awhile. I like to be natural.” So she wants us to believe that her bleach-blonde hair is all naturale? Hmm. Does she think the American public is that stupid? Also, if you have huge breast implants, how can you ever look someone in the eye and say you like to be natural? It’s not as if anyone on the planet will take these comments seriously.
I do applaud Pamela Anderson for refraining from BOTOX, unlike the vast majority of her celebrity counterparts. It seems that in her middle age, she might have finally reached the point of being comfortable in her own skin. Lucky for her she made enough money on Baywatch to cover the massive price tag it took for her to achieve this comfort level.
But I would like to offer a slightly different insight as to why she has boldly chosen to forego BOTOX and other facial plastic surgery procedures in an attempt to age gracefully and naturally. The real reason – what’s the point? She’s an also-ran.
Other than her legendary sex tape with Tommy Lee, she hasn’t had a single moment in the past 15 years where she has done anything viable. No one is knocking down her door to give her TV and movie roles, you never see her on the cover of magazines, and she doesn’t even register very much on the radar of the paparazzi anymore. Since the rest of the world has clearly forgotten about her, why would it matter if she starts showing some signs of age? It’s not like people will start to care about her again if she looks artificially young for her age.
Besides, BOTOX or no BOTOX, she will always look fake. While this look helped her land some of the largest roles of her career (could you see her on Baywatch without those fake boobs? I can’t.), it has also passed her by. Pamela Anderson, welcome to Purgatory. You are now a middle-aged former TV star who has lost the one trait that made you famous in the first place – your sex appeal. Just don’t blatantly lie to the rest of the world about your reasons for accepting this fate. It’s rather insulting to those of us with at least half a brain.
