Labioplasty, or Labiaplasty, is new “plasty” in the world of cosmetic plastic surgery. Labioplasty is a surgical procedure used to enhance the appearance of female genitalia. A quick Google search on this subject is likely to return around 260,000 results; a testament to the procedure’s growing popularity.
Simply put, Labioplasty is undertaken to reduce the size of the inner lips of the vulva. The most common aesthetic concerns arise from elongated inner lips of the vulva, which tend to protrude from skimpy bathing suits, thongs or bikini bottoms. This can understandably cause an annoyance on part of anyone who bears this condition.
Elongated labia can also be cumbersome for both bike and horseback riding. Aside from functionality, many women find prominent labia, embarrassing from an aesthetic viewpoint. In extreme cases the problem is severe enough to hamper sexual activity.
Such excessive protrusion of labia minora (technical name for the inner lips of vulva) is often times just a congenital variation in anatomy. However, this protrusion can be an end result of mechanical irritation, inflammation, manipulations of labia, or multiple pregnancies.
More frequently women are seeking surgical correction for prominent labia and many surgical procedures, like Labioplasty, have been described to address this issue. All of the available procedures have their good and bad points. The choice of cosmetic procedure depends on the surgeon’s preference based upon each patient’s case, but most corrective procedures work well.
Labioplasty is performed under general anesthesia, or local anesthesia, depending upon patient and doctor preferences. Many times labioplasty is undertaken in conjunction with other cosmetic surgeries like liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast surgery or a facelift, and sometimes it is even undertaken in addition to other gynecological procedures. Both plastic surgeons and gynecologists offer Labioplasty.
Labioplasty enjoys a relatively quick recovery. There is minor discomfort for 5-10 days and recovery is complete in 2-3 weeks. An increasing number of women are opting to have correction for elongated labia rather than accepting the embarrassment and annoyance sometimes posed by this condition.

it’s not a “condition” medical or otherwise. if anyone chooses to have this surgery it is cosmetic. that is your own choice. however, it is sickening that this western form of female circumcision is being pushed under the guise of necessity. plastic surgeons who capitalize on these types of surgeries should not be considered doctors. people should be educated about anatomy so they won’t fall victim to this type of bullshit propoganda. look at vaginas throughout time they are all different not one is better than another…if your boyfriend isn’t into your vagina find someone else who isn’t socially brainwashed and shallow.
