There are times when people make decisions that reaffirm my faith in humanity. In the world of plastic surgery, that is a rarity. But in this particular case, it has occurred. And for that, I am truly grateful.
Not too long ago, I blogged about the fact that the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City was sponsoring a contest that would give the winner $25,000 to be used towards any plastic surgery procedures he or she desired. This Nip and Tuck Sweepstakes functioned as a lottery, with the winner being drawn at random from people staying at the hotel and casino while the contest was being held.
For many reasons, this contest was an abomination, as I thoroughly discussed in my previous post on the subject. Clearly, if you can’t afford breast augmentation or liposuction on your own, you shouldn’t be plunking down all of your hard earned cash at a casino in the hopes of winning it for free. But when have the people of this country acted responsibly when it comes to plastic surgery?
On Saturday October 29th, the Trump Taj Mahal picked its winner. They offered her the option to take her prize in cash instead of as a voucher for plastic surgery. Not surprisingly, she chose the cash option, spurning the surgeon’s scalpel in favor of a fatter bank account.
I have only one thing to say to this woman, who wished to remain anonymous, regarding her decision. Good for you.
Of course, now that she is $25,000 richer, she is free to use that money on anything she wants. We’ll never know if she skulks over to her local plastic surgeon’s office to get that mommy makeover she’s secretly always wanted. But somehow, I have a feeling that won’t happen. Whatever she chooses to do with the money, I hope she puts it to good use. In the few minutes I’ve spent writing this blog, I’ve already begun to construct a rather elaborate wish list in my mind of things I’d spend that $25,000 on if I were the winner. And I guarantee you none of it would be spent on plastic surgery.
