I knew those crazy Brits love their plastic surgery, but this goes entirely too far. The Good Surgeon Guide, the only cosmetic treatment review website in Britain, recently conducted a study to determine how British women felt about performing non-invasive plastic surgery procedures on themselves.
Approximately 1,350 women across Great Britain were included in this study. The results are nothing short of jaw-dropping:
- More than 1 in 5 women (approximately 22%) would consider injecting BOTOX into their own face
- 54% of women would undergo the procedure if it were performed by a plastic surgeon
- 32% of women would have BOTOX performed by their hairdresser
- 39% of women would let their friend inject BOTOX into their face
- 41% of women would let their mother perform the procedure
- Only 4% would let their boyfriend do the deed
When asked why they would consider do-it-yourself BOTOX, 46% of women said they were interested in it because it was easier, while 29% were attracted to the cheaper cost. Of the 22% of women who would go the do-it-yourself route, 64% would rather inject BOTOX themselves than trust their local beautician.
To provide a comparison, the study asked women their opinions about performing a variety of other activities themselves:
- 11% of women would cut their own hair
- 19% of women would remove a splinter from their own hand
- 13% of women would remove a piece of glass from their own foot
So according to this study, more British women are comfortable shooting a needle full of toxin into their face than performing less dangerous actions such as cutting their own hair or removing splinters and glass. Are these women insane?
I’m sure a bad hair cut can drop you several notches on the attractiveness scale, but it is nothing compared to having the wrong part of your face frozen for six months. Plus, don’t you think sticking a needle into your face would be a little scarier than pulling out a splinter?
I thought it was interesting that ten times as many women trust their mother to shoot BOTOX into them than would trust their boyfriend. What does that say about the dateable male population over there? Maybe those British girls should get some American boyfriends. I’m sure more than 4% of our male population can be trusted with a needle.
And what’s with the hairdresser administering BOTOX? About 1/3 of British women have no problems letting their hair dresser perform this task. Last time I checked, hair dressers were trained to cut hair, not perform non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
If you ask me, these British women are nuts. Remind me to stick to dating American women, who I’m sure have more sense than to put a needle into their own face. But in all seriousness, there are certain risks associated with BOTOX, and it is certainly not safe to have the procedure performed by someone lacking the proper training. Otherwise, you may come out looking like a circus freak.
