The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has let loose to the public its predictions for cosmetic surgery in 2006. An overview of its predictions is as follows:
- Silicone gel breast implants will be approved by the FDA. As we know, the implants are currently in debate due to minor difficulties reported with the implants. The natural feel of these implants have made them incredibly popular despite difficulties and, once approved, they will overtake the U.S. market in cosmetic surgery.
- Racial and ethnic minorities will become increasingly acceptable of cosmetic surgery procedures, as new venues will be opened to them.
- Patients will become more aware of the issues surrounding cosmetic surgery and will avoid “too good to be true” prices in favor of more safe, clean procedures.
- Due to New Jersey’s unflattering experience with cosmetic surgery tax, more states will refuse proposals to tax cosmetic sugery procedures.
- Scientists and manufacturers will develop new methods and technological advances to further the science of non-invasive procedures, as the use of these procedures increases.
- There will be a noticable growth of men involved in cosmetic surgery.
- Large-scale clinical studies will have been undertaken to prove the saftey and effectiveness of minimally-invasive procedures such as barbed sutures and fat melting.
- More people will make an extended vacation out of cosmetic surgery as their intelligence of the procedures increases, and they choose to take more extended care of their post-surgery state.
- Board certification of doctors and accreditation of surgical facilities will be key components when choosing a cosmetic surgeon.
- Cosmetic fillers will dramatically increase in popularity as products continue to evolve and new elements come into the market.
These advancements show great promise for those involved in cosmetic surgery, and especially so for those considering having a procedure done by a reliable surgeon.
