There is a wide variety of cosmetic surgery procedures for rejuvenating the face but the hands tend to be overlooked. The hands show signs of aging just as much as the face does, and perhaps sooner. Sun damage tends to affect the hands more easily, as it is hard to keep a sunscreen on the hands for very long, given how many tasks we use them for and how often we wash them.
- Age Spots — also called liver spots — are sun damage. They can be treated by the same methods that are used for the face, such as chemical peels, alpha-hydroxy and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).
- Prominent Veins — aging causes some veins to become too visible, and they can be treated like spider veins on the legs, with sclerotherapy. This involves injections which clot the blood and cause the veins to atrophy and disappear.
- Wrinkles — these form as aging causes the hands to become thinner. The skin wrinkles and bones look more prominent. A fat graft can give more plumpness and laser skin treatment can restore a more youthful look just as it can for the facial skin.
All hand rejuvenation treatments are outpatient procedures done with local anesthetic. Popular treatments are microdermabrasion which can be done on your lunch hour, and injectable fillers which can achieve the same rejuvenating results for the hands as they can for the face. Some of the most frequently-used dermal fillers are Restylane, Hylaform and Artecoll.
