They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. When eyelids begin to sag, wrinkles appear, and dark circles and bags develop, you may feel that the youth within your soul is obscured by aged and tired curtains. Even if the rest of your face and body still look young, your eyes are the first thing that people notice. Signs of age in this area can steal all of the attention.
With age, eyelid skin loses its elasticity, stretches, and sags. The crease in the eyelid disappears, the eyelid begins to droop, for some going so far as to sag past the eyelashes and impair vision.
Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat, lifting the eyelid to its correct position. If needed, fat can repositioned to restore plumpness to the proper area of the eyelid. Wrinkles are smoothed, sagging is eliminated, and the eyes are opened up again.
Sagging or Heavy Brows
Time and genetics can cause the brow to sag or hang low over the eyelids, creating a tired or even angry appearance.
Upper blepharoplasty addresses the upper eyelids themselves, but if the problem is caused by excess skin and/or muscle above the eyebrows, a brow lift is the appropriate solution. A brow or forehead lift raises and removes excess skin and tightens and sculpts the muscles in the forehead. This raises droopy or heavy eyebrows, opening up the eye area.
Hollows under the eyes create shadows that cause dark circles which cannot be covered with makeup. These hollows become deeper with age. Dark circles under the eyes make you look tired and older.
Dark circles are corrected by smoothing out the contours from the lower lashes to the cheek. This can be accomplished permanently by surgically repositioning fat to fill in the sunken area, or temporarily by using an injectable filler to plump out the area.
Bags and Sagging Under the Eyes
Bags, puffiness, and sagging under the eyes can be caused by weakened or lax skin and muscles, and fat deposits. They are usually the first dramatic signs of age to show up in the face.
Lower blepharoplasty removes excess skin and tightens the muscles. Excess fat can be removed or sculpted or repositioned to achieve a better shape. Bags are removed and the skin is smoothed out.
Fine lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles
Sun damage, dryness, and squinting can create all sorts of lines and wrinkles around the eyes.
Resurfacing procedures can remove fine lines, reduce wrinkles, and stimulate collagen production, restoring the skin around the eyes. BOTOX injections relax the muscles smoothing out wrinkles and preventing them from forming in the future.
All of these procedures can be performed alone or in combinations to achieve the desired effect. Because each person has unique needs, skin, and facial structure, you must work closely with your cosmetic surgeon, letting him or her know what you wish to achieve and how far you are willing to go with surgery.
